Over a five-week period from May 27 to June 30, 2011, we will assemble a team of at least 1,008 members to actively distribute transcendental books to benefit people of the world. We will offer the results of this event to the great Acharya (world teacher of spiritual knowledge) Bhaktivinoda Thakura on his disappearance day, Thursday, June 30th.
Around the same time last year, with much less time to plan, 550 people joined this campaign. We are starting earlier and in a much better organized way this year.
Our principle for success is to get a lot of people, each one doing a little and while doing making it fun and easy. And to make it even more exciting, we ask everyone to invite their friends, family members, and colleagues to join them, asking everyone to do a small bit

By joining this festival you will feel inner happiness because you will be contributing directly to the spiritual welfare of people of the world.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krsna says that the person who spreads spiritual knowledge does the highest welfare work and is dearest to Him. And there has never been a better time to please Krsna in this most exalted way.
People of the world are unsettled as they see their fellow citizens rising up against their leaders, while the leaders are blindly employing stopgap measures or violence to stem the tide. The Middle East is broiling. Japan, New Zealand, Chile, and Haiti are all facing epic natural and man-made environmental crises. Even affluent nations are going through times of economic uncertainty and working people everywhere are juggling finances just to stay afloat. And these are a few samples of what is happening throughout the world.
Fading is the promise of happiness through material acquisition or advanced scientific research. People are now hungry for a spiritual practice that will give them direct experience of the supreme transcendence and tangible inner happiness that they can share with others.
The ancient Vedas — now available in beautifully presented books – show this path. We have stockpiled these books and are ready to distribute them to the masses.
You can make a difference!
Join our team of world-wide distributors for this unprecedented mission that will distribute thousands of transcendental books, providing effective spiritual solutions to sincere people of the world.
Following Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and displaying his own compassion for the people of the world, Bhaktivinoda Thakura sent transcendental books to people outside India. As the first Acharya in our line to do so, he sent the book entitled, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, His Life and Precepts, to scholars and literary luminaries of the time, thereby planting seeds for the sankirtan movement (the movement for cooperatively spreading spiritual knowledge) in the West.
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur entrusted Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s sankirtan movement to his son, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, who in turn passed it on to his disciples, among whom was Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who personally brought Lord Chaitanya’s mission to the United States in 1965. Following the order of his spiritual master and the example of Srila Bhaktivinoda, Srila Prabhupada brought trunk loads of his transcendental books on Krishna consciousness for distribution. He also tirelessly traveled throughout the world, speaking, writing, and training his own disciples in the science of Krsna consciousness as taught by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Bhaktivinoda Thakura says . . .
jive doya, krishna-nam-sarva-dharma-sar The showing of compassion to all fallen souls by loudly chanting the holy name of Krishna is the essence of all forms of religion.
Passed down through this chain of teachers and students (disciplic succession), this treasure of transcendental knowledge has now been laid at our doorsteps by Lord Chaitanya and his followers. And they are inviting us to distribute this knowledge. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has put all of Lord Chaitanya’s teachings into beautifully illustrated and perfectly bound books that are waiting to be distributed to millions of people all over the world. Help pass these books on!
“The more such literatures are read and distributed, the more auspicity will be there in the world.” (Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada; quote from letter to Lilavati; 26 March, 1972)
Srila Prabhupada not only fulfilled Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s prediction that “a great General would soon appear to spread Lord Chaitanya’s teaching’s all over the world,” but also ensured that it would continue through the generations by passing the torch to his disciples and followers, training them and empowering them to “do as he had done.”
Catch these divine orders from the disciplic succession and in honor of Bhaktivinoda Thakura. Reap the mercy of Bhaktivinoda Thakura! It’s fun and easy.We look forward to assist you.On behalf of Team ISV, Vaisesika DasaPlease visit 7thGoswami.com and Register. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur ki Jai!
Today is the appearance day of Srila Vrindavana Das Thakur and we are borrowing from an April blog post on www.Radha Shyamasundar.com in a humble attempt to glorify this great personality. Srila Vrindavana Das Thakur Jaya Srila Vrindavana Das Thakur! On this day the only uncertainty should be if we should chant the name of Gauranga more or Nityananda more but what is certain is the glorification of Srila Vrindavana Das Thakur is a must, not only as a pure devotee of Gaur-Nitai but also the embodiment of Gaura Prema.
In the Caitanya Caritamrta Adi-lila 11.55 is states: bhagavate krishna-lila varnila vedavyasa caitanya-lilate vyasa -- vrindavana dasa Srila Vyasadeva described the pastimes of Krishna in Srimad-Bhagavatam. The Vyasa of the pastimes of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Vrindavana dasa.
The purport states: Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura was an incarnation of Vedavyasa and also a friendly cowherd boy named Kusumapida in krishna-lila. In other words, the author of Sri Caitanya-bhagavata, Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura, the son of Srivasa Thakura's niece Narayani, was a combined incarnation of Vedavyasa and the cowherd boy Kusumapida. There is a descriptive statement by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura in his commentary on Sri Caitanya-bhagavata giving the biographical details of the life of Vrindavana dasa Thakura.
Srila Vrindavana das Thakur was the most dear devotee and disciple of Lord Nityananda and was one of the last if not last disciples of Lord Nityananda.
Srila Vrindavana das Thakur's glories can go on and on but one of my favorite glories is his staunch stance on Vaishnava apradha! Something we unfortunately still see all too often. He states: eta parihare-o je papi ninda kare tabe lathi maron tar shirera upare Even after being told how objectionable it is, if someone still blasphemes the Vaishnavas then I will kick him in the head.
Can it be said any stronger?
On this day I am unqualified to adequately glorify Srila Vrindavan das Thakur so I will turn to the words of Srila Krishna Dasa Kaviraja Goswami.
O fools, just read Sri Caitanya-mangala! By reading this book you can understand all the glories of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
As Vyasadeva has compiled all the pastimes of Lord Krishna in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Thakura Vrindavana dasa has depicted the pastimes of Lord Caitanya.
Thakura Vrindavana dasa has composed Sri Caitanya-mangala. Hearing this book annihilates all misfortune.
By reading Sri Caitanya-mangala one can understand all the glories and truths of Lord Caitanya and Nityananda and come to the ultimate conclusion of devotional service to Lord Krishna.
In Sri Caitanya-mangala [later known as Sri Caitanya-bhagavata] Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura has given the conclusion and essence of devotional service by quoting the authoritative statements of Srimad-Bhagavatam.
If even a great atheist hears Sri Caitanya-mangala, he immediately becomes a great devotee.
The subject matter of this book is so sublime that it appears that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has personally spoken through the writings of Sri Vrindavana dasa Thakura.
I offer millions of obeisances unto the lotus feet of Vrindavana dasa Thakura. No one else could write such a wonderful book for the deliverance of all fallen souls.
~ Caitanya Caritamrta Adi-lila 8.33 to 40
And with that I offer my humble obeisances to Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura and thank my guru Srila Prabhupada for delivering this treasure. Thank you for the oppurtunity to glorify Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura!
Gauranga! Gauranga! Nityananda! Nityananda! Personal Deities of Srila Vrindavana Das Thakur

ISKCON Food Relief Foundation is Working to Uplift the Society by Giving Healthy Future to India New Delhi, Delhi, India, Saturday, May 28, 2011 -- (Business Wire India)
ISKCON Food relief foundation, an NGO based in Delhi & NCR is working towards the betterment of the society by helping to break the vicious circle of hunger and poverty that restricts educational and development opportunities of unprivileged children by providing them regular, nutritious food as mid day meal. Mid day meal is an important meal for the growing children, as it is the factor that monitors health, energy and will to work or study in every child.
The Foundation has taken up an initiative to feed nearly 450,000 children across Delhi and NCR in the schools of MCD and NDMC, who otherwise are not able to afford a healthy meal. The NGO has a technical tie up with the United Nations world food program and is ISO 9001 certified. The food which is sent to MCD and NDMC schools are hygienically prepared and are tested for the appropriate percentage of proteins, carbohydrates, etc that a growing child needs to maintain a good health.
The NGO has a total of 1000 staff in Delhi & NCR that looks after overall performance and functioning to provide hygienic and nutritious food to the children from underprivileged background. The NGO have customised utensils for cooking purposes, which ranges from rice cookers - capable of making 3600 kilograms of rice in 1 hour to the Poori machine capable of making 20,000 Pooris in 1 hour. The food is prepared keeping in mind all aspects related to hygiene and maintaining the nutritional value of food therefore the food is prepared by steam heating without making the use of fire. 100 customised vehicles are deputed to deliver the ready to eat food to different schools across Delhi and NCR. The food containers are sealed to ensure that the food reach the needy with no manipulation or in lesser quantity.
Wastage of water and other resources is maintained very efficiently as the NGO uses Effluent Treatment Plant and the water obtained from this plant is used for cleaning the vehicles and gardening. On the other hand, the wastage of food items are controlled by donating the food to the pig farms when the quantity exceeds the required amount as the NGO does not make re-use of the same food for the children.
The NGO is getting support from Corporate-houses, Businessmen who donate generously, and also from the Government as it gives Rs. 2.89 to the NGO for each meal they provide to the children. While each meal costs the NGO is Rs.5/- and the NGO is in real need of funds to be allocated for continuing successfully the generous chain of giving out food to the poor children.
Many of the children who use to work as child labour or were forced to get indulged in beggary are now happily coming to the schools knowing the fact that they will get good food to eat. It motivates them to come to school and learn as much as they can. This program of the NGO has increased the enrolment of children in schools at noticeable numbers.

Recently, I discovered that saying a simple prayer, reading a few shlokas from The Bhagavad Gita As It Is by Srila Prabhupada, lighting diyas at the altar with some agarbattis and chanting my favourite Hare Krishna maha mantra or attending Sunday mass at the Church have had a deeply calming and soothing effect on me.
At first, I did this purely for my selfish need for dealing with aggression, day-to-day frustrations or impatience and have become attached to this ‘under 10 minutes only’ but extremely necessary routine.
I avoid overtly religious displays, despise social gathering for religious causes and even avoid commenting about God to anyone.
I’m more like a fish out of water in these situations. A few years ago, at a spiritual gathering in my aunt’s house, I was introduced to the Hare Krishna movement or ISKCON, when I developed symptoms of extreme exam anxiety.
I was lucky to have the guidance of a wonderful teacher Shyama Vallabha Das Prabhu and the loving direction of several devotees who introduced me to the Radha Gopinath Mandir at Girgaum Chowpatty, Mumbai and to Radhanath Swami Maharaj. I love their ease at explaining the beautiful language of God and the simplicity of their way to worship Him.
Their preachings are extremely lucid, their application even simpler. I have found happiness, joy, success and even peace here, even more so when I feel furious about an unkind comment or get angry about a social snub or when I’m afraid and lonely. Praying helps me ease anger, lower my aggression and lessen the impact of provocation. My all time favourite prayers are Radha Madhava and Namastey Narasimhaya. So just say a prayer, even if you’re not religious. It slowly starts growing on to you and you look forward to it, just like the eagerness of having a dessert after a delicious dinner.

Every so often we get an email full of nectar from Mitra Prabhu at Prabhupada Village. The latest email had some wonderful memories from Shyamasundara Prabhu, a pioneer within ISKCON who rendered so much service to Srila Prabhupada.
It is one thing to have heard pieces of these stories and another thing to hear it straight from Prabhu's mouth.
Mita Prabhu graciously provided an audio recording of the lecture which is full of this nectar. So we asked Mitra Prabhu to share this nectar with all of you so as many devotees as possible can relish these early pastimes with Srila Prabhupada!
(The audio recording is below the brief write up). Also, given Prabhu's name it is very nice to have Shyamasundara Prabhu's recollections on www.RadhaShyamasundar.com :-)
All glories to Srila Prabhupada and his devotees. Shyamasundar Prabhu with Shivananda Prabhu and his wife Madan Mohan Mahini Mataji in Prabhupada Village Mr. Adventure !
Our little village was visited by a devotee named Shyamasundar two weeks ago. He was instrumental in pioneering the Hare Krishna movement in San Francisco 1967, Europe 1969, India and Africa. He traveled extensively with Srila Prabhupada to many other countries. Fortunately, we were able to record his captivating presentation. A link is provided below. Here are a few highlights from his talk; -The “Mantra Rock Dance” in San Francisco 1967. “We didn’t think it would be possible to get all these top name groups to perform as a charity for the Radha Krishna Temple. It was worth a try.” Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Moby Grape all played for the minimum wage of $250 per band. As Srila Prabhupad led the crowd in a kirtan of Hare Krishna Mantra the groups tastefully joined in with their instruments.
-When we met Srila Prabhupada, we thought, 'Here is Mr. Adventure!". Shyamasundar felt that anything he would attempt to do for Prabhupad would be successful. There were no limits.
-“After the Mantra Rock adventure, we were looking for something even more far out. We considered going to England to meet the Beatles. “ Shyamasundar with his wife Malati and two other couples soon left for England after training under Srila Prabhupada.
Within a few months they had become friends with George Harrison and made a recording of the Hare Krishna Chant on the Beatles record label.
When Prabhupada came to England he given a VIP reception at the airport, then chauffeured in John Lennon’s Rolls Royce to John's estate in the country. Their fast selling record had been released only a couple weeks before . They were treated as celebrities on par with the Beatles after enduring months of hardship and poverty.
-A year later, Prabhupada was discussing his itinerary,”Shyamasundar, we have invitations to NY, LA, England and Nairobi, what is your opinion?”
“Well SP, you haven’t been to Africa yet…”
“I was thinking the same thing”, and off they went, to initiate the first public kirtan in Nairobi.
-In 1971 an interview with a Russian Professor was arranged. Somehow Shyamasundar was able to accompany Prabhupada across the ‘Iron Curtain” into Russia.
This was practically impossible for a US citizen at that time. He smuggled a tape recorder under his dhoti to capture the interview.
While wandering the streets of Moscow, searching for food to bring back to the hotel room, (the shelves of stores were mostly empty, even in June, the growing season), he was approached by some Russian youth, “Do you have Beatles Music or blue jeans?”
These “illegal” items were highly sought after in Russia.
“No, I dress like this “, pointing to his dhoti. “But I am friends with George Harrison, and his guru is here in Moscow. Would you like to meet him?”
For the 2 remaining days of their stay, Prabhupada taught Anatoli as much as he could absorb. Shayamasundar gave him his personal copy of BG.
Anatoli made several thousand copies of that book, giving them to friends, launching an underground revolution in his country.
Attached is a photo of Shyamasundar with our local hero, Shivananda. At age 19, Shivananda singlehandedly started a temple in Germany one year before Shyamasundar's team arrived in London.
This was their first time meeting face to face, 42 years later. (Photo-left to right- Shyamasundar, Shivananda and his wife Madan Mohan Mohini)
There are still many more adventures to be had in this world. The key is to find 'Mr. (or Mrs.) Adventure' and assist them in any way possible. By this service, you will be inspired to create your own adventure in a quest to improve the world situation.
Mitra Listen below: Thanks for sharing the nectar. A face to the name. Mitra Prabhu. Obviously on the left :-)
In yesterday's post we provided a wonderful quote from Srila Prabhupada for PHL 101 (University Philosophy course) and today is another wonderful quote for KC 101 (Krishna Consciousness 101), where Srila Prabhupada explains the importance of the maha mantra. Sometimes when reading or researching you just stumble upon something you want to share and this is the case with yesterday's and today's post. Thanks for letting us share this with you and of course Thank You Srila Prabhupada for these words. This transcendental vibration by chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, is the sublime method for reviving our Krishna consciousness. As living spiritual souls, we are all originally Krishna conscious entities, but due to our association with matter from time immemorial, our consciousness is now polluted by the material atmosphere. In this polluted concept of life, we are all trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in our complexities. This illusion is called maya, or hard struggle for existence, for winning over the stringent laws of material nature. This illusory struggle against material nature can at once be stopped by revival of our Krishna consciousness. Krishna consciousness is not an artificial imposition on the mind. This consciousness is the original natural energy of the living entity. When we hear the transcendental vibration, this consciousness is revived, and the process is recommended by authorities for this age. By practical experience also, we can perceive that by chanting this maha-mantra, or the Great Chanting for Deliverance, one can at once feel transcendental ecstasy from the spiritual stratum. And when one is factually on the plane of spiritual understanding, surpassing the stages of sense, mind and intelligence, one is situated on the transcendental plane. This chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is directly enacted from the spiritual platform, surpassing all lower strata of consciousness — namely sensual, mental and intellectual. There is no need of understanding the language of the mantra, nor there is any need for mental speculation, nor any intellectual adjustment for chanting this maha-mantra. It springs automatically from the spiritual platform, and as such, anyone can take part in this transcendental sound vibration without any previous qualification, and dance in ecstasy. We have seen it practically. Even a child can take part in the chanting, or even a dog can take part in it. Chanting should be heard from the lips of a pure devotee of the Lord, so that immediate effect can be achieved. As far as possible, chanting from the lips of a non-devotee should be avoided as much as milk touched by the lips of a serpent causes a poisonous effect.
The word Hara is the form of addressing the energy of the Lord. Both Krishna and Rama are forms of addressing directly the Lord and They mean the highest pleasure, eternal. Hara is the supreme pleasure potency of the Lord. This potency when addressed as Hare helps us in reaching the Supreme Lord.
The material energy, called as maya, is also one of the multi-potencies of the Lord, as much as we are also marginal potency of the Lord. The living entities are described as superior energy than matter. When the superior energy is in contact with the inferior energy, it becomes an incompatible situation. But when the supreme marginal potency is in contact with the spiritual potency, Hara, it becomes the happy, normal condition of the living entity.
The three words, namely Hara, Krishna and Rama, are transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra and the chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His internal energy, Hara, for giving protection to the conditioned soul. The chanting is exactly like a genuine cry by the child for mother. Mother Hara helps in achieving the grace of the Supreme Father, Hari, or Krishna, and the Lord reveals Himself to such sincere devotee.
No other means therefore of spiritual realization is as effective in this age as chanting the maha-mantra:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama,
Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
~ His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada
Imagine it is your first day of Philosophy 101 class at University. By way of introduction and challenge the professor asks "do you exist" and you answer by quoting Srila Prabhupada...
"So this chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is purifying your existence. Yasmād śuddhyed sattvaṁ. Sattvaṁ means existence. You are existing, I am existing, God is existing eternally. The temporary existence that we see at the present moment, this is not our existence. This is our diseased condition, crazy condition. Piśācī pāile yena mati-cchana haya. Piśācī means ghost or witches. When one is haunted by ghost he becomes upset of his own consciousness and talks all kinds of nonsense. Similarly, when our existence is covered by the material ghost we talk so many nonsense: “I am this body, and anything in relationship with this body is mine. I am dying. I belong to this family. I belong to this community, nation, this, that, planet.” These are all just like a man haunted by ghost speaks nonsense, these are all nonsense. And the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is to cure this disease." And just imagine the professor's face...we have the cure for that too...
TIMES OF INDIA P VASANTH KUMAR , TNN | May 24, 2011, 12.02am IST
BANGALORE: The Karnataka high court on Monday said Iskcon (Bangalore) has no legal existence as an independent body.
A division bench comprising Justices H N Nagamohandas and Arali Nagaraj observed: "The plaintiff society (Iskcon, Bangalore) has miserably failed to prove that it has legal existence as an independent, autonomous society. It failed to prove and establish that it is the absolute owner in possession and enjoyment of property. It is found that the plaintiff society is a defunct society. By taking advantage of similarity in the name Bangalore branch of defendant (Iskcon, Mumbai) and by fabricating documents, is falsely claiming the schedule property. There is no evidence on record to show that the plaintiffs built the Iskcon movement in the state of Karnataka and acquired schedule property. The plaintiff society and its office-bearers have no manner of right to interfere with the functioning and administration of the society."
The bench allowed the regular first appeal filed by Iskcon, Mumbai, and set aside the April 17, 2009, verdict of the IX additional civil and sessions court, Bangalore, which ruled that the property at Harekrishna Hills in Kethamaranahalli (now Rajajinagar) belongs to Iskcon, Bangalore, and also is a separate entity.
The bench said: "Madhu Pandit Dasa and other devotees heading the branch are entitled to continue to function in their capacity only in accordance of by-laws and regulations of Iskcon, Mumbai. There is no document to show how Madhu Pandit Dasa and Stoka Krishna Dasa were admitted as members of the society. There was no general body meeting held even though the society was formed in 1978 and there is a governing body of Iskcon, Bangalore in existence in terms of Karnataka Societies Registration Act. There are no I-T returns for 1978-2002 and Rs 39.59 crore was shown as corpus fund without supporting material. A round rubber seal of the plaintiff society was affixed in some correspondence with the BDA and telephone department for the purpose of claiming suit properties."
The counsel for Iskcon, Bangalore, moved an application seeking a stay on the verdict to enable them to file an appeal before the Supreme Court. The bench will take up that application for hearing on Tuesday.
Madhu Pandit Dasa, president, Iskcon, Bangalore, said they had not received a copy of the judgment. "However, Iskcon, Bangalore, will pursue its case within the legal framework and will appeal against this decision in the Supreme Court."
