Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
"If the surface of the globe is over-flooded with the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra, the people of the world will be very, very happy." ~ Srila Prabhupada (Srimad Bhagavatam purport 4.24.11)
Happy World Holy Name week! For the next 10 days we have the opportunity to please Srila Prabhupada and expand Mahaprabhu's glorious sankirtan movement by organizing or participating in at least a few events. Spreading and chanting the holy names far and wide will resonate and wake the sleeping souls...this is our duty...
From many options, below is a selection of suggestions from the World Holy name committee : - Nagar Sankirtan - Harinaam processions with WHNW and mahamantra banners. - Japathon - Pledges from devotees and congregation to chant extra rounds during this period. - 24 hours or 12 hours Sankirtan - non-stop chanting for 24/12 hours - Morning SB on Holy names as the theme - Morning Bhagavatam classes emphasizing on glories and importance of Holy Names. - Japa Seminars – Seminars on japa related topics e.g japa reform, 10 offenses, types of japa etc - WHNW Sunday feast lectures & dramas – Presentations based on importance of Holy names and related topics. - Japa Booth – Putting a table with beads and pamphlets in the temple encouraging new comers to get the beads and chant. - Hare Krishna on Radio - Hare Krishna Kirtans specially SP dhun on radio. - Holy Name walks - Padyatras to nearby towns and villages to distribute holy names, Prabhupada books and Prasad. - Video, multimedia shows and Harinam concerts for public.
Of course these are just a few ways to make World Holy Name Week the biggest yet. Your local ISKCON centre will be organizing events which you can participate in or assist in suggesting and organizing events.
For example in our home town of Toronto a jam packed week is planned including a special 12 hour kirtan tomorrow evening inside the lobby of a commercial building in the heart of downtown. It is part of a city sponsored art event called "Nuit Blanche" where ISKCON is an official part. Since the City of Toronto is providing funding, it may very well be the world's first city funded 12 hour kirtan! So far the schedule for World Holy Name Week in Toronto is: Daily Morning Conference Call readings from the book ‘Sri Namamrta’ (7:15-7:25am)
Daily Special Srimad Bhagavatam Classes on ‘The Power of the Holy Name’ at the temple (7:30-8:45am) (live broadcast @ www.torontokrishna.com
Sat, Sep 29th - Nuit Blanche: 12-Hour Kirtan (7pm-7am) and Monthly Sankirtan Festival (7pm-midnight)
Sun, Sep 30th - Special Sunday Feast Lecture on the theme of Maha Mantra Week
Tue, Oct 2nd - Special Tuesday Sanga with H.G. Rohini Priya Prabhu
Wed, Oct 3rd - Srila Prabhupada Movie Night (7-9pm) with popcorn and juice!
Fri, Oct 5th - Downtown Harinama (6:30-8pm)
Sat, Oct 6th - Street Sankirtan (11am-2pm); Bhajan Night (6-8:30pm)
Sun, Oct 7th - Grand Finale: Special Sunday Feast Lecture on the theme of Maha Mantra Week
So wherever you are reading this from...please try to do this service to Srila Prabhupada and spread the holy names as part of this global effort.
May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified.
May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Sri Krishna, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him.

Victory!!! All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Word leaked out from the court rooms about 1/2 an hour ago that the ruling is in favor of ISKCON!!! Media reports have confirmed a few minutes ago. A translation of one article is below.
___________________________________________________________The court refused to recognize in Tomsk extremist book "Bhagavad-gita As It Is"
Siberia / Society Tomsk. On December 28. Interfax-Siberia - Tomsk Lenin District Court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit Tomsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office to recognize an extremist book "Bhagavad-gita As It Is," which is one of the interpretations of Hinduscripture "The Bhagavad-Gita."
The court found no grounds to satisfy the claim, reports "Interfax".
Last summer, Tomsk Oblast prosecutor's office filed a claim for recognition of an extremist book "Bhagavad-gita As It Is" with commentary of the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON, also known as themovement of "Hare Krishna") Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
A few days ago a young mataji helping organize Ratha Yatra in Toronto asked us to promote Ratha Yatra on this blog...So over the next week as a lead up to Ratha Yatra in Toronto there will be some posts that hopefully lead some to take time to come and see the Lord of the Universe as He make His way down the longest street in the world, Yonge Street.
So have a Ratha Yatra weekend and join in on July 16th for the parade with festivities continuing all weekend long at centre island. Or make it a Jagannatha long weekend and join in early on Friday to get a jump start on the constant supply of kirtan and ecstasy. See www.festivalofindia.ca or on http://facebook.com/festivalofindia.toronto
A quick picture from my phone while driving past a local Hindu temple on Wednesday Every day as I drive between my offices, I pass a local Hindu temple. On occasion, I notice many cars and foot traffic at the bus stops and around the temple. This past Wednesday morning it was pretty much the same thing and by the time I was making my return trip a couple of hours later there were cops directing traffic, tons of cars and a bit of a traffic hold up. So on a weekday there was a few thousand people coming and going into the local Hindu temple. Many may pray to a variety of Gods and Goddesses, may not maintain sadhana or have Krishna Consciousness intertwined as part of their daily lives but to their credit they were there with family and friends on a workday trying to practice some sort of spirtual awakening.
In an attempt to maximize the number of devotees that can attend festivals and programs, our local ISKCON centres try to maintain most programs on weekday evenings and weekends, with some exceptions of course, such as our Founder Acarya, jaya nitya lila pravishta om vishnu-pada paramahamsa parivrajakacharya ashtottara-shata Sri Srimad His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada's vyasa puja.
So ISKCON Toronto is making an exception and doing a weekday program! They are requesting as many devotees, congregants and friends as possible to gather at the temple during the workday on Friday. So there has to be a good reason and it has to be something GRAND. And indeed it is...on July 15th, the day before Lord Jagannatha's Ratha Yatra hits Toronto there is 12 hours of non-stop kirtan! Some travel to New Vrindavan, Germany and other locales just for kirtan...but here you have a 2 for 1 special! Kirtan followed by Jagannatha's Ratha Yatra, followed by festivities on an island oasis! There will be kirtan stars and sanyasis but most importantly there will be Mahaprabhu's Harinam. So all the details can be found at www.festivalofindia.ca or http://facebook.com/festivalofindia.toronto
Krishna Consciousness is intertwined in our daily lives and trust me work and material headaches will still be waiting for you on Monday...so take the day off....and if not the day off...then half a day off. The kirtan festival is being organized for your enjoyment and spirtual benefit and it will be followed by Mahaprabh's harinam sankirtan through the streets of Toronto! And most importantly tell your family, friends, co-workers, neighbours and even the local store clerk to check it out... Perhaps tell them "these folks are bringing the oldest and biggest festival all the way from Jagannatha Puri to Toronto!" kirtanya sada hari!

Govinda's in Toronto After the last post about Govinda's in Miami, we would be amiss to not also mention the local Govinda's Vegetarian Dining Club in Toronto. And trust me the prasadam (sanctified food) is delicious and varied.
So if you were tempted by the last post and Miami is a bit too far, check out http://govindas.ca/
With the mercy of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Subhavalisa das will be giving the discourse at ISKCON Brampton tomorrow. So if you missed his discourse at ISKCON Toronto last week, you will have a chance to hear this nectar plus much more at ISKCON Brampton.
The program starts at 11am and the discourse is around noon. The devotees at the Brampton temple are very homely and welcoming and they have a great Sunday school program for the kids as well. So hopefully you can make it out and share in the devotional atmosphere which defines ISKCON Brampton. For directions and more information please visit: http://iskconbrampton.ca/contacts.html

We are on the road and was going to blog updates of our Krishna pilgramage over the Xmas holidays. Hopefuly we can start these posts tomorrow....1 week...6 temples!
The great "kata" of Radha Kund is that one demon named Aristasura, in the body of a bull, was killed by Krishna. The gopis told Krishna that for killing a bull, He had to purify Himself by visiting every single holy place in the three worlds. "If you take bath at all the holy places, You will be relieved of the offense of killing him.”
Krishna then said, “Why should I visit all these places, I will just bring the water from all these places here and then bathe in them.” Krishna then struck His heel on the ground and all the waters of all the holy places entered into Syama Kund. Krishna then bathed in Syama Kund.
After bathing, he said that the gopis had become impure because they had sided with a demon, even though he had been in the form of a bull. The gopis led by Radharani then dug another pond nearby with their bangles. There was no water in the hole, so the gopis formed a line to Manasa Ganga and began to fill the hole they dug by passing water from one gopi to another. Then a representative of all the sacred places told Radharani, “Our lives would be successful if we could enter Your pond.” The holy waters from Syama Kund then flowed into Radha Kund with the permission of Radha. So Radha Kunda is the holy waters from all the sacred places.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada who gave us this spirtual treasure!
The past times of Radha & Krishna ki Jaya! The appearance of Radha Kund ki Jaya!
