The month of February is Black History Month here in Canada (African-American History Month in the U.S.) About a month ago (Monday, January 17th) was Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the US and in the kid's school here in Canada they talked about MLK and his contributions.
This month they made them write short essays for about a dozen African American leaders including Martin Luther King Jr. My daughter's work got posted on the bulletin board this week (she is quite the author and in fact last year she became a published author) and it got me thinking about an essay I wrote about MLK some 25 years or so ago...
Most blog readers must have at some point or another studied MLK, heard one of his speaches or read his writings. SO I would like to share one quote by Martin Luther King Jr. which really stood out to me...
"I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality. This Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Jewish-Buddhist belief about ultimate -- ultimate reality is beautifully summed up..."
Last month I saw pictures and video of devotees spreading this same Love of God with Harinam at the MLK parada in L.A. They were making the Lord of the Universe accessible to everyone.
So enjoy the following video links of Jaganatha, Baladev and Subhadra along with His devotees participating in the parade on January 17th, 2011 courtesy of ISKON Los Angeles. The first link is actual coverage on ABC.
